Music Marketing Planning
We created a schedule to keep us on track. Based on when certain parts of the project were due and their necessity for the continuation of the project, we put dates when certain things should get done. The first thing my group and I did, what anyone should do, was research. We got the miscellaneous folder meaning we were able to choose what music genre we wanted from four options. We chose “Send My Love” by Adele, therefore pop. We researched two record labels, Columbia Records and Republic Records, and artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, the Weeknd, and Adele. We researched their albums: Midnights, Harry’s House, Dawn FM, 30.
Once we knew what pop singers did to market and distribute their music, we carefully decided our best course of action for a target audience of 20–35-year-old women. We had research to back up our decisions for how to do our pitch and our music video. For the music video, we agreed to make a storytelling video to show how relatable our client and her work is. To further this, we created a storyboard to make sure we are using the appropriate shots to convey the client’s message.
We also downloaded the song’s lyrics, and with color coding and descriptions, were able to plan out actions and scenes we wanted to show in the video. It took a lot of discussion between the group members. This way we don’t have to scramble during the filming process. We want to create a heartbroken character and that she suddenly gets inspiration to write a song. We get flashbacks and then she gets a bit of “writer’s block.” She goes out and suddenly sees her ex with another girl and that’s all the motivation she needs. She ends up completing the song and that’s when the song title comes up. It will make more sense when it is finally produced.
